The Washington Capital organization and fanbase is heartbroken after their second straight year being eliminated in the second round to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Capitals won their second straight Presidents Trophy this season as well.   They should have been able to win it all this year, they were the deepest team in the league by far, and now they face many contract and player decisions in a busy summer for the Capitals GM.

There has been speculation that Alexander Ovechkin could get traded this summer.  Ovechkin is the best pure sniper in the game, and one of the most prolific goal scorers in the NHL at this time.  The first overall draft pick of 2004 could be getting traded this summer, and is basically getting pinned as the reason why Washington can not get past the second round, and win a cup.

It is not all on him, there are 17 other skaters who were not doing their jobs, and Braden Holtby, Vezina trophy frontrunner did not play anywhere near as best that he could have.

Teams like Las Vegas, Dallas, Montreal, and Calgary have been linked to Ovechkin.  Only one team as far as we know has sent an offer, and it was a legitimate offer that could go through.

According to the Delfi report, the Calgary Flames have offered the Capitals their 20-year-old defenseman Oliver Kylington, 20-year-old center Sam Bennett, and two first round draft choices for Ovechkin.

As of right now, this is just a rumor, and nothing has been confirmed by either team.  If this blockbuster rumor is true, I do not think this deal will be accepted.  From a marketing standpoint, it could destroy fans away from the Caps.  The offer is very fair, as the flames are giving an two top prospects, and potentially four top prospects if you include the draft choices.

Will Ovechkin get dealt to another team this year?
