Aggie’s go dancing for second year in a row

New Mexico State at the beginning of the year was predicted to finish second in the Western Athletic Conference behind Grand Canyon University. The Aggie’s out performed those predictions and ended winning the regular season with a record of 25-5. Earning them a number one seed in the WAC Tournament. Getting easily passed Chicago State by 27 points. Having a closer game with Seattle University in the conference semi finals with a final score of 84-79. This set up the match up everybody predicted in the beginning of the season. Aggie’s vs Antelopes, adding another chapter to this up and coming rivalry in the WAC Conference. The site was neutral, in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Orleans Arena.

Grand Canyon got to a hot start. Going on a 8-0 run at the begin of the first half. Yet they were not able to create enough breathing space between themselves and the New Mexico State Aggie’s. Behind a great first half from A.J. Harris, the Aggie’s were able to storm back into the game with a 19-4 run and take a commanding 33-22 lead into half time.
Zach Lofton had a huge game for the Aggie’s. He went for a total of 23 points and took over the New Mexico State offensive in the first half and lead the comeback before the break. Jemerrio Jones had another double-double with 15 points and 19 rebounds. Those 19 rebounds helped him break the record for most rebounds during a WAC tournament. Dominating the glass like he has done all season. He put the cherry on top on a historic season for the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year

Whats next for the Aggie’s? They will hold a Selection Sunday watch party on Sunday March 11th at the Fulton Center. Which is free and open for the public. They will wait to see who there upcoming opponent is in the NCAA tournament.

Whats next for Grand Canyon University? wait for an invitation for a smaller tournament like the NIT
