With two outs and runners on second and third base in the bottom of the ninth-inning with the game tied at five between the Washington Nationals and the New York Mets, Amed Rosario hit a chopper to shortsop Trea Turner. Turner tried to throw him out, but Rosario was safe by a mile and because of it, New York took down Washington 6-5.
In the second-inning, Juan Soto hit a solo home run off of Zack Wheeler for the Nationals.
In the fifth-inning, the Mets tied the game at one on an RBI single by Jeff McNeil.
Brian Dozier hit a two-run homer in the seventh-inning off of Wheeler to put Washington up 3-1.
New York would respond in the bottom of the seventh-inning on a pinch-hit three-run homer by J.D. Davis and he hit off of Wander Suero.
In the top of the eighth-inning, Juan Soto and Trea Turner each hit an RBI double and they regained the lead momentarily 5-4.
Pete Alonso tied the game for the New York Mets at five in the bottom of the eighth-inning on a solo home run off of Tanner Rainey.
Rainey (0-1) was the losing pitcher for the Washington Nationals. He pitched one inning and gave up two hits and two runs. Tanner Rainey walked two batters and struck out three.
Edwin Diaz (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the New York Mets. He pitched one inning and gave up a hit and struck out two batters.
The starters for Wednesday night’s match up will be Max Scherzer (2-5, 3.72 ERA) for Washington and Jacob deGrom (3-5, 3.98 ERA) for New York. This will be the third game of the four game set.
