Avalanche Win Wild Game Against Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Colorado Avalanche were both coming off wins the night before. A lot of expected to both teams to be slow out of the gate skating wise, but that wasn’t the case at all.

With the game tied at three in the third-period, Gabriel Landeskog scored the game-winning goal for the Avalanche with 9:55 remaining in regulation, to lift Colorado to a 6-3 victory over Pittsburgh.

The shot when off of Juuso Riikola’s jersey and it changed direction and into the net.

Samuel Girard scored the first goal of the game for the Colorado Avalanche with 8:41 remaining in the first-period.

Erik Johnson and Colin Wilson scored for the Avalanche in the second-period. Johnson’s goal was challenged for goalie interference and the play was upheld. That was a bad challenge by Mike Sullivan.

Sidney Crosby scored a fast break goal for the Pittsburgh Penguins with 52 seconds remaining in the second-period. Jared Bednar challenged the play for goalie interference. The play was upheld and it was another bad challenge.

Crosby scored a power-play goal on a bad angle shot with 10 seconds remaining in the second-period. He tied the game at three for Pittsburgh 4:43 into the third-period. Juuso Riikola recorded his first career because he had a secondary assist on the goal.

With Colorado leading 4-3 with under a minute to play, Kris Letang was tripped up in his own offensive zone and no penalty was called. It led to an empty-net goal by Nathan MacKinnon with 29 seconds remaining in regulation. He finished the night with four points (1 goal and 3 assists).

Carl Soderberg scored for the Avalanche with 16 seconds remaining in regulation.

Tristan Jarry made 20 saves for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Philipp Grubauer made 22 saves for the Colorado Avalanche.

These two teams will play each other again next week in Pittsburgh and it will be the final time these two teams will play each other this season. The Pittsburgh Penguins next game is against the Philadelphia Flyers at home on Saturday night. The Colorado Avalanche will play against the St. Louis Blues at home on Friday night.
