Blue Jackets Take Commanding 3-0 Lead on Lightning

The Columbus Blue Jackets had a 2-0 series lead last season against the Washington Capitals and they blew the series. This season, Columbus had a 2-0 series lead against the Tampa Bay Lightning entering Game 3 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus Ohio.

Tampa Bay would be without Nikita Kucherov because of a one-game suspension and they would also be without defenseman Victor Hedman because of an injury. The Blue Jackets controlled the tempo for most of the game as they took down the Lightning 3-1 and they now have a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.

There was no scoring in the first-period. Throughout most of this game, it got very chippy between the whistles.

Matt Duchene scored 1:44 into the second-period for Columbus. He had a monstrous Game 2 with one goal and three assists. Oliver Bjorkstrand scored a power-play goal for the Blue Jackets 8:25 into the second-period.

Ondrej Palat scored for Tampa Bay 4:40 into the third-period. They tilted the ice a lot in the third-period, but Sergei Bobrovsky stood tall for Columbus. He finished the game with 30 saves.

Cam Atkinson scored an empty-net goal for the Columbus Blue Jackets with one minute remaining in regulation.

Andrei Vasilevskiy gave the Tampa Bay Lightning a chance to win the game because of his stellar goaltending. He finished the game with 27 saves.

Game 4 will be on Tuesday night in Columbus. They will look to advance to the second-round of the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Tampa Bay will look to stave off elimination for another day.
