The Boston Bruins did not want to give the Carolina Hurricanes any momentum to get back into this series. Once again, Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask made some big saves early and often. He finished with 24 saves on the game and it was his second shutout of the postseason and the Bruins won Game 4 over Carolina 4-0.
There was no scoring in the first-period. David Pastrnak scored a power-play goal 4:46 into the second-period for Boston. Patrice Bergeron scored another power-play goal with 1:26 remaining in the second-period.
Bergeron scored his second goal of the game with 9:28 remaining in regulation. Brad Marchand scored an empty-net goal with 2:17 remaining in regulation for the Boston Bruins.
The power play was one of Boston’s strength in this series and it is one of the reasons why they are going to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara did not play in this game for some unknown reason.
The Hurricanes overachieved this season. Curtis McElhinney finished the game with 19 saves.
Carolina has a very bright future ahead of them and this was the first time in a decade that they have reached the playoffs.
The Boston Bruins will host Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals and they will either face the St. Louis Blues or the San Jose Sharks. I don’t expect the Stanley Cup Finals to begin until Memorial Day. Boston will have a ton of rest before hand and it could either be a very good thing or a very bad thing for them.
This is the first time since 2013 they are in the Stanley Cup Finals. They are looking to win their first title since 2011 and if Boston wins it all, it will be their seventh Stanley Cup title in franchise history.
