Braves Offense Out Duels Phillies Offense

When the Philadelphia Phillies scored four runs in the top of the first-inning off of Mike Soroka. The Atlanta Braves responded with two runs in the bottom of the first-inning and then Atlanta poured it on as they took down Philadelphia on Independence Day 12-6.

Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto each had an RBI single in the first-inning for the Phillies. Cesar Hernandez had a two-run single in the first-inning as well for Philadelphia.

Dansby Swanson hit a solo home run in the first-inning for the Braves off of Zach Eflin. Nick Markakis had an RBI double later in the inning for Atlanta.

The Atlanta Braves (52-36) scored two more runs in the second-inning to tie the game at two on a Ronald Acuna Jr. RBI single and a Dansby Swanson RBI double.

Ozzie Albies hit a three-run home run off of Zach Eflin in the third-inning for Atlanta.

Freddie Freeman and Josh Donaldson hit back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth-inning for the Braves off of Edgar Garcia.

Sean Rodriguez hit a pinch-hit solo home run for the Philadelphia Phillies in the sixth-inning off of Grant Dayton.

Rhys Hoskins also had an RBI double for Philadelphia in the sixth-inning.

Dansby Swanson hit a three-run home run off of Austin Davis in the eighth-inning for the Braves and it put the game out of reach for the Phillies.

A.J. Minter (3-4) was the winning pitcher for Atlanta. He pitched one inning and struck out one batter.

Zach Eflin (7-8) was the losing pitcher for Philadelphia. He pitched three innings and gave up seven hits and seven runs. Eflin walked two batters and struck out three.

With the loss, the Philadelphia Phillies (45-42) are now 6.5 games back of first place in the National League East. Philadelphia slipped to third in the NL East Standings and the Washington Nationals (45-41) are now in second place in the division and they are also in a wild card spot by just 0.5 games.

Philadelphia will be on the road for a three-game set starting on Friday night against the New York Mets before the All-Star Break. Atlanta will host the Miami Marlins for a three-game set starting on Friday night before the All-Star Break begins.
