Bruins Top Blackhawks in Winter Classic

For the first time ever, an outdoor hockey game was taking place at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana. It was the 12th annual NHL Classic on New Year’s Day and this year, the match up was between the Boston Bruins and the Chicago Blackhawks. Sean Kuraly scored the game-winning goal for Boston with 9:40 remaining in regulation and the Bruins defeated the Blackhawks 4-2.

Brendan Perlini scored for Chicago 8:30 into the game. David Pastranak tied the game at one on the power play for Boston 4:08 later in the first-period.

Dominik Kahun scored for the Chicago Blackhawks with 8:36 remaining in the second-period. Patrice Bergeron tied the game at two for the Boston Bruins on the power play with 1:12 remaining in the second-period.

Before the tying goal in the second, Bergeron made a great defensive play on a fast break to prevent the Blackhawks taking a 3-1 lead.

Before the Bruins made it 3-2 in the third, Chicago killed off a key 5-on-3 power play.

With 33 seconds remaining in regulation, Brad Marchand scored an empty-net goal for Boston.

Tuukka Rask made 36 saves for the Boston Bruins. Cam Ward made 32 saves for the Chicago Blackhawks. These two teams will play each other one more time this season in Boston.
