Capitals Down Golden Knights in Stanley Cup Finals Rematch

For the first time since the Stanley Cup Finals last June, the Vegas Golden Knights and the Washington Capitals would be playing each other in a regular season match up on Wednesday night at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The Capitals defeated the Golden Knights 5-2.

Evgeny Kuznetsov scored a power-play goal with :35 seconds remaining in the first-period for the Washington Capitals.

Alex Ovechkin scored for Washington with 9:42 remaining in the second-period.

Cody Eakin scored for the Vegas Golden Knights with 9:11 remaining in the second-period,

Nicklas Backstrom scored a power-play goal for the Capitals 5:08 into the third-period.

Reilly Smith scored for the Golden Knights with 7:08 into the third-period.

Alex Ovechkin scored his second goal of the game for the Washington Capitals with 9:27 remaining in regulation. He now has 611 career goals and Ovechkin passed Bobby Hull on the all time goals list. Alex Ovechkin is now 17th all time.

The Vegas Golden Knights originally scored a goal with 6:11 remaining in regulation, but the Washington Capitals challenged the goal for a potential offsides and they won the challenge.

T.J. Oshie scored an empty-net goal for Washington with 1:55 remaining in regulation.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 24 saves for the Vegas Golden Knights. Braden Holtby made 29 saves for the Washington Capitals.

These two teams will meet each other one more time this season. The Vegas Golden Knights will be at the Pittsburgh Penguins next on Thursday night. The Washington Capitals will be at the New Jersey Devils next on Thursday night.
