Cardinals Top Braves in Wild Game 1

With the game tied at three in the top of the ninth-inning between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of the NLDS, Marcell Ozuna and Kolten Wang each had two-run doubles to give St. Louis a 7-3 lead.

Atlanta made noise in the ninth-inning as well by Ronald Acuna Jr. hitting a two-run homer off of Carlos Martinez with no body out. Freddie Freeman hit a solo home run off of Martinez with one out in the ninth-inning. That is as close as the Braves would get and the Cardinals survived Game 1 by a score of 7-6.

A throwing error by Kolten Wong in the first-inning allowed Ozzie Albies to score for Atlanta and Josh Donaldson was safe at first and Freddie Freeman was safe at second.

Dexter Fowler hit an RBI ground out for St. Louis in the fifth-inning.

Dansby Swanson hit a two-run single for the Atlanta Braves in the sixth-inning.

Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo home run off of Jackson for the St. Louis Cardinals in the eighth-inning. They tied it at three on a Matt Carpenter RBI single.

Carlos Martinez (1-0) was the winning pitcher for St. Louis. He pitched 1.1 innings and gave up two hits and three runs. Martinez walked one batter and struck out two.

Mark Melancon (0-1) was the losing pitcher for Atlanta. He pitched one inning and gave up five hits and four runs. Melancon walked two batters and struck out one. He also blew a save in this game.

Dallas Keuchel was the starting pitcher in this game for the Braves. He pitched 4.2 innings and gave up five hits and one run. Keuchel walked three batters and he did not strike out anybody.

Miles Mikolas was the starting pitcher in this game for the Cardinals. He pitched five innings and he gave up three hits and one run. Mikolas walked two batters and struck out two.

This best-of-five series will continue on Friday afternoon at Suntrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia. St. Louis leads this series 1-0 and the projected starting pitchers for Game 2 will be Jack Flaherty (11-8, 2.75 ERA) for the St. Louis Cardinals and Mike Foltynewicz (8-6, 4.54) for Atlanta.
