The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a non dramatic 2018-2019 season up to this point. They are one of the worst teams in the NBA with a 19-53 record. Cleveland has the third worst record in the NBA and they would draft third if the season ended today.
The Cavaliers have a 14 percent chance to land the number one pick in May, along with the New York Knicks and the Phoenix Suns. Every one wants to land Duke’s sensation Zion Williamson, but there is only team that can land him.
For some gut reason, I think Williamson will be with New York next season. If Cleveland lands the number one pick and draft Zion, the hype of Lebron James will begin all over again.
I am not sure if it will be a good thing or a bad thing. Zion Williamson will most likely be the face of the franchise immediately. Even if Cleveland doesn’t land him, there is still point guard Ja Morant from Murray State and forward R.J. Barrett from Duke University.
As of right now, I think Barrett would be in a Cavaliers uniform because it is quite possible Morant will be the second pick in the NBA Draft after Zion Williamson.
If Cleveland falls out of the top three which I don’t see happening, there will still be some very good players available. Forward Rui Hachimura from Gonzaga, guard Coby White from North Carolina, forward DeAndre Hunter from Virginia, and guard/forward Keldon Johnson from Kentucky.
Guard/forward Cameron Reddish from Duke and forward Nassir Little from North Carolina were supposed to be top five picks heading into this season. There stocks have both fallen.
The Cleveland Cavaliers also own the 23rd pick in the NBA Draft because of a trade with the Houston Rockets earlier in the season. A big man like Naz Reid from LSU could be available with the 23rd pick, but I think he will be gone by then.
Center Bol Bol from Oregon could also slip because of an injury he had earlier in the season, but Bol Bol will most likely be gone by then as well.
The three most likely players they could very well take with that pick is center Goga Bitadze from Rep. of Georgia, center/forward Jaxson Hayes from Texas, and Jontay Porter from Missouri. I think they will either end up with Hayes or Porter.
Collin Sexton was drafted with the eighth overall pick in the NBA Draft last season because they had the Brooklyn Nets pick from the Isaiah Thomas trade before the 2017-2018 season began.
Sexton has been a lot better recently with Cleveland and his teammates have gotten on him and it has helped him become a better player. He is averaging 16.2 PPG, 3 RPG, 2.9 APG, 0.1 BPG, and 0.5 SPG so far this season. Collin Sexton also hasn’t been very good defensively at times this season as well.
He will be one of the corner stone pieces of this franchise moving forward. Cedi Osman will also be another corner stone piece as well. The players inside the locker room love Kevin Love.
Ever since Lebron James left, they haven’t been very good but they have a better understanding what direction this franchise needs to head in.
