Dolphins Laterals Help Beat Patriots

After Stephen Gostkowski made a 22-yard field goal for the New England Patriots with less than 25 seconds remaining, the Patriots went up 33-28 against the Miami Dolphins. With six seconds remaining from Miami’s own 31-yard line, Ryan Tannehill threw a 14-yard pass to Kenny Stills for 14 yards. He then lateraled it to DeVante Parker for three yards and then Parker lateraled it to Kenyan Drake. Drake took it 52 yards for a touchdown as time expired to lift the Dolphins to a 34-33 win.

This is the fifth time in the last six seasons the Patriots have lost in Miami. Kenyan Drake finished with 24 yards rushing on six carries. He also caught one pass for 55 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Tannehill completed 14-of-19 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 13 yards on one carry.

In the first-quarter, James Develin scored on a 2-yard touchdown run for the Patriots (missed extra point).

Ryan Tannehill threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Stills later in the first. Stills finished with eight receptions for 135 yards receiving and a touchdown.

In the second-quarter, Tom Brady threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Julian Edelman. Edelman finished with nine receptions for 86 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Braden Bolden scored on a 54-yard touchdown run for Miami later in the second.

New England responded with a 37-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady to Cordarrelle Patterson. He finished with two receptions for 51 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Bolden scored on a 6-yard touchdown run for the Miami Dolphins later in the second. He finished with 60 yards rushing on two carries and two touchdowns. Bolden also caught a pass for no yards receiving. Frank Gore was Miami’s leading rusher with 92 yards rushing on 12 carries. He also caught one pass for 24 yards receiving.

Tom Brady threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski later in the second for the New England Patriots. Gronkowski finished with eight receptions for 107 yards receiving and a touchdown. Brady completed 27-of-43 passes for 358 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for three yards on one carry. Sony Michel was New England’s leading rusher with 57 yards rushing on 20 carries.

Right before the half, Tom Brady was sacked with under 10 seconds remaining and they had no timeouts remaining. New England led 27-21 at the half.

Ryan Tannehill threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Brice Butler. That was his only reception of the game. The rest was history.

The Miami Dolphins are still alive for a possible wild card spot in the AFC.

The New England Patriots (9-4) will be on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-4-1) next Sunday. The Miami Dolphins (7-6) will be on the road against the Minnesota Vikings (6-5-1) next Sunday.
