The New York Giants have traded outside linebacker/defensive end Olivier Vernon to the Cleveland Browns for offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler. New York is also sending the 132nd overall pick (4th round) to Cleveland for the 155th overall pick (5th round).
The Giants will still have 10 draft picks, but four of them are now in the fifth-round. Vernon is 28 years old and he has two years remaining on his contract. Olivier Vernon is owed $15.5 million the next two seasons.
He will be a nice pairing on the defensive line with Myles Garrett. Vernon played in 11 games last season with New York. He recorded 7.5 sacks and had 30 tackles. Olivier Vernon forced a fumble and he also recovered one. Vernon also had one pass deflection.
Zeitler is 29 years old and he is under contract for the next three seasons. Kevin Zeitler will be owed $10 million next season and 2020. He will be owed $12 million in 2021.
With this trade, the Giants upgrade the offensive line and get protection for quarterback Eli Manning. It will also give running back Saquon Barkley more run to room. This was a good trade for both teams.
