Hurricanes Shutout Capitals

For the first time since 2009, the Carolina Hurricanes would be playing a home playoff game and the fans were ready to roll and Carolina was looking to feed off the energy. Entering this game they were trailing in the series 2-0 against the Washington Capitals. The Hurricanes dominated in Game 3, 5-0. Washington still leads this series 2-1.

There was a ton of fireworks in the first-period. Rookie Andrei Svechnikov kept picking on Alex Ovechkin and they decided to fight. Ovechkin buried him in a fight in two seconds and Svechnikov’s head hit the ice and he left the game and he did not return.

Alex Ovechkin didn’t initiate the fight at all and that was all on Andrei Svechnikov. For whatever reason, the fight didn’t seem to spark the Capitals at all.

The Hurricanes scored a goal in the first-period by Warren Foegele 9:43 into the first-period. He also scored a goal 6:09 into the second-period.

Dougie Hamilton scored a power-play goal for Carolina with 8:20 remaining in the second-period. He scored another power-play goal 9:47 into the third-period.

Brock McGinn scored a goal for the Carolina Hurricanes with 4:25 remaining in regulation.

Petr Mrazek didn’t have to do much for Carolina and he made 18 saves. The Hurricanes defense made Washington’s offense look invincible all game long.

Braden Holtby made 40 saves for the Capitals.

Game 4 will be on Thursday night at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.
