While yes, I understand it is only 2017 and Bryce Harper has a very small chance of becoming a Cub. But, it sure is fun to imagine what the Cubs would look like with Bryce Harper manning the outfield.
So, for the case of this article, we will be theorizing that the Bryce Harper reports to the Cubs came true and the Cubs managed to keep their entire team as is (very unlikely).
So if Bryce Harper joined the Cubs, they would have 3 true 3 hole hitters with Harper, Rizzo, and Bryant. But 2 of them are lefty and one is righty so we will be splitting them up and having Bryant bat third.
*note* This layout does not include players such as Jon Jay or Albert Almora who would be used in a platoon role. Also note that Javier Baez was not included either but in a 162 game season he would surely get his playing time.
- Ben Zobrist (S)
- Anthony Rizzo (L)
- Kris Bryant (R)
- Bryce Harper (L)
- Addison Russell (R)
- Kyle Schwarber (L)
- Willson Contreras (R)
- Jason Heyward (L)
The toughest decision made during this was easily who to bat second, since with the power three its hard to have one of them hitting 5 hole rather than second. Once I decided to stick Rizzo in the 2 hole 3 and 4 came easy. Then came the decision who to bat 5th, I wanted a right handed bat and that is what Russell provided. Also, the decision between Kyle or Heyward in the 6 hole wasn’t easy but I figured with the rest of the lineup, the 6 hole would have a lot of RBI chances and that is perfect of Schwarber.
While yes, this is just theoretical, I thought it would make for a good read and something fun to cover.
