Is It Possible that the Arizona Cardinals Will Move on from Josh Rosen?

The Arizona Cardinals decided to trade up in the NFL Draft last season and take quarterback Josh Rosen with the 10th overall pick. He didn’t see game action until Week 3 against the Chicago Bears at home and Rosen was named the full time starter since Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks at home.

During his rookie campaign, he completed 55.2 percent of his passes for 2,278 yards 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Josh Rosen had to deal with a change at offensive coordinator after Week 7.

Speaking of change, the Arizona Cardinals decided to fire Steve Wilks as head coach after just one season and they decided to hire former Texas Tech Offensive Coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. Could the change of head coach possibly force Josh Rosen out the door this offseason?

It would be really silly to move on from him after one season. They traded up for him in the draft last season after all and Arizona must have thought something of him at the time.

That being said, Kingsbury was interviewed one time about Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray. He mentioned that if he had the number one pick, he would take him.

Well here is what is interesting. The Arizona Cardinals have the number one pick in the NFL Draft. Murray is expected to declare for the NFL Draft even though he was drafted by the Oakland A’s this past summer to play baseball. They allowed him to play college football this past season. Kyler Murray won the Heisman Trophy.

The knock on him is that he is only 5’11” and small quarterbacks may not make it in the NFL. He played in a gimmick offense at Oklahoma and I don’t think he will be great in the NFL.

Baker Mayfield played at Oklahoma during the 2017 season. He won the Heisman Trophy as well that season. Mayfield was the number one overall pick by the Cleveland Browns this past season.

Mayfield’s and Murray’s stats were very similar in the final year of playing college football. Baker Mayfield completed 70.5 percent of his passes for 4,627 yards 43 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for 313 yards on 98 carries and six touchdowns.

Kyler Murray completed 69 percent of his passes for 4,361 yards 42 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 1,001 yards on 140 carries and 12 touchdowns.

Mayfield was more proven to be a number one pick because he is able to throw from the pocket and he didn’t rely on running all the time. Murray is going to have to learn to throw from the pocket in the NFL. Quarterbacks that run all the time usually have short NFL careers.

I would find it hard to believe that the Arizona Cardinals actually think Kyler Murray could be a better quarterback than Josh Rosen. If they actually do, some of the possible teams he could be traded to is the Miami Dolphins, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Washington Redskins, and the New York Giants.

I think they should keep Josh Rosen because he will have a longer and better career. I think the Arizona Cardinals would make a mistake to draft him because he still could pursue a career in baseball and I don’t think Kyler Murray will last long in the NFL.
