Is Sergei Bobrovsky on his way Out of Columbus?

Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He will not be playing in Thursday night’s game at home against the Nashville Predators due to an internal matter within the organization. Because of this, is it possible that Columbus will be trading him at the trade deadline this season?

I don’t think they should trade, but the Columbus Blue Jackets will definitely listen to some offers. If the season ended right now, they would be the number three seed in the Metropolitan Division with a 24-15-3 record with 51 points and they would face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first-round.

Sergei Bobrovsky has won the Vezina Trophy twice. He has been with the Columbus Blue Jackets since the 2012-2013 season. Bobrovsky’s record so far this season is 18-13-1 with a .906 save percentage and a 2.87 GAA, along with two shutouts. He gives this team the best chance to make a playoff run even though Sergei Bobrovsky has struggled in the playoffs in his career.

If Columbus decided to trade him, I don’t think it means they are waving the white flag for the season, but it means they are looking towards the future more. Even if they traded him, the Blue Jackets could still make it to the playoffs because they have enough offensive talent to get there. Columbus has scored 135 goals so far this season and they have given up 130 goals.

Twenty-four-year-old Joonas Korpisalo would be the starting goalie for this team if he they decided to move on from Sergei Bobrvosky. Korpisalo’s record so far this season is 6-2-2 with a .889 save percentage and a 3.29 GAA. He is the future full time starter for this team.

J.F. Berube would become the backup goaltender and he was recently called up from the Cleveland Monsters in the AHL. Berube played in 24 games in the AHL. His record was 11-10 with a .899 save percentage and a 2.94 GAA. He has not played in an NHL game yet this season.

At the end of the day, I don’t think Sergei Bobrovsky will be traded at the trade deadline. If internal issues continues to occur, the Columbus Blue Jackets will have no choice but to make a move sooner rather than later.
