Jake Guentzel’s Two Goals Helps Penguins Avoid Letdown Against Panthers

With the game tied at two in overtime between the Florida Panthers and the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sidney Crosby flipped the puck in his defensive zone to Jake Guentzel. Guentzel out-muscled his defender and scored the game-winning back-handed goal with 2:16 remaining in overtime and it lifted Pittsburgh to a 3-2 win over Florida.

Henrik Borgstrom scored a power-play goal for the Panthers 1:45 into the game.

Jake Guentzel scored 16 seconds into the second-period for the Penguins. Sidney Crosby scored a power-play goal with 9:59 remaining in the second-period.

Vincent Trocheck tied the game at two for Florida with 2:29 remaining in the second-period.

Roberto Luongo finished with 34 saves for the Florida Panthers. Matt Murray finished with 32 saves for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brian Dumoulin was listed as a game-time decision, but he didn’t play. Dumoulin has missed the last few games because of a concussion he suffered in the Stadium Series game on the road against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Pittsburgh Penguins won the season series 2-1 against the Florida Panthers.

Florida’s next game will be on the road on Thursday night against the Boston Bruins. Pittsburgh’s next game will be at home on Thursday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

That game will feel like a playoff game in March because of how tight the standings are in the Eastern Conference right now.
