Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson was set to be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but the Capitals made sure that Carlson wasn’t going to hit the market. The 28-year-old Carlson re-signed with the Washington Capitals and it is an 8-year deal worth $64 million.
He had a breakout season in 2017-2018 with 15 goals and 53 assists, in 82 games played. His plus/minus rating was even. Thirty two of his 68 points were in the power play.
In 24-playoff games, John Carlson scored five goals and recorded 15 assists. Eight of his 20 points were on the power play. His plus/minus was 11.
John Carlson is one of the key anchors on the Washington Capitals blue line and now they don’t have to sweat it out. Carlson is another core player that is locked up for a while now along with Evgeny Kuznetsov, Nicklas Backstrom, Alex Ovechkin, Braden Holtby, and T.J. Oshie.
