In an afternoon Memorial Day clash at Yankee Stadium between the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees, Justin Verlander was ready to take the mound once again and dominant his opponents. He entered the game with a 6-2 record and a 1.07 ERA, which is the best in the MLB. Verlander pitched 6.2 innings and gave up five hits, one run, and struck out five batters in Houston’s 5-1 win against New York.
He picked up his seventh win of the season. Verlander continues to mo down batters game in and game out. He received more than enough run support. J.D. Davis hit a three-run homer in the second-inning for the Houston Astros off of Domingo German.
Evan Gattis hit an RBI single in the fourth inning. Greg Bird hit a solo homerun in the seventh-inning for the New York Yankees off of Justin Verlander. Jose Altuve hit a solo homerun for the Houston Astros in the eighth-inning off of A.J. Cole.
Domingo German was the losing pitcher for the Yankees and he dropped to 0-3 on the year. German pitched 5.2 innings and gave up five hits and four runs. He walked two batters and struck out seven.
