Kakko Sparks Rangers over Penguins

The 3-on-3 overtime session is always one of the most exciting things to watch in sports. In the overtime session, the Pittsburgh Penguins had some valuable chances to score.

Brian Dumoulin had a couple of chances but at one point, Evgeni Malkin turned the puck off in the offensive zone and it led to a Kaapo Kakko goal for the New York Rangers 2:24 into the overtime session as New York took down Pittsburgh 3-2.

It was assisted by Adam Fox and Pavel Buchnevich. Fox set that goal up for Kakko and the Penguins defense didn’t have a chance to stop it.

Adam Fox was one of the reasons why they won this game.

Kaapo Kakko (6:49 into the first-period) and Adam Fox (11 seconds remaining in the first-period) both scored goals for the Rangers in the first-period.

Justin Schultz (1:13 into the second-period) and James McCann (7:27 remaining in the second-period on the power play) scored goals for Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Penguins snapped their 0-for-27 streak on the power play. Hopefully for their sake, they will get rolling on the power play now.

Kris Letang, Patric Hornqvist, and Sidney Crosby were out for this game for Pittsburgh. It is possible that Crosby might need sports hernia surgery and it would require him to be sidelined for the next four to six weeks.

Matt Murray recorded 24 saves for Pittsburgh.

Alexander Georgiev recorded 30 saves for New York.

These two teams will play each other three more times this season.

The Penguins next game will be on the road on Friday night against the New Jersey Devils.

The New York Rangers next game will be on the road on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
