Lightning Back in Series with Game 3 win over Capitals

It was gut check time for the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 3 against the Washington Capitals on the road, according to Tampa Bay Lightning’s captain Steven Stamkos. Stamkos backed up his play by scoring a goal and an assist in a 4-2, Game 3 win for the Tampa Bay Lightning over the Washington Capitals. Washington still leads series 2-1.

Stamkos scored a power-play goal in the first-period for Tampa Bay. Nikita Kucherov (power play) and Victor Hedman both scored goals for the Lightning within the first 3:37 of the second period. Brett Connolly scored for Washington in the second period.

Brayden Point scored later in the second for the Lightning. Evgeny Kuznetsov scored a goal for the Capitals with 3:02 remaining in the third-period and it was with ax extra-attacker on the ice. Washington had several good opportunities but Andrei Vasilevskiy shut the door for Tampa Bay. He made 36 saves and Vasilevskiy was outstanding after having a rough first two games of the series.

Braden Holtby made 19 saves for Washington. They didn’t have Nicklas Backstrom for the fourth consecutive game with an upper-body injury. It is very possible he is back in the lineup for Game 4. Game 4 will be on Thursday Night in Washington D.C.
