After Victor Hedman scored the go-ahead goal on the power-play with 56 seconds remaining in regulation for the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Pittsburgh Penguins gave them one last gasp.
In the final seconds, Andrei Vasilevskiy made a glove save and he finished with 37 saves.
However, that glove save had to be reviewed because there was a possibility the glove and the puck both crossed the line. There is one angle that showed both of that for a glimpse second, but most of the angles did not show that what so ever and Tampa Bay hanged on to beat Pittsburgh 3-2.
This review took around eight minutes. For the most part, the NHL officiating did a very good job officiating that play and also reviewing it.
Alex Killorn scored 9:46 into the game for the Lightning.
The Penguins struck twice in the second-period. Brandon Tanev scored a back-handed goal 5:06 into the second-period. Jake Guentzel scored with 59 seconds remaining in the second-period.
Dominik Simon did a tremendous job of keeping the puck in the zone on the second goal and Sidney Crosby did a great job finding Guentzel open.
Cedric Paquette tied the game at two for Tampa Bay 7:07 into the third-period.
Tristan Jarry finished the game with 45 saves for Pittsburgh.
These two teams will play each other two more times this season.
This was a big win for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Injuries are starting to catch up to the Pittsburgh Penguins. You know it is getting bad for them when defenseman Jusso Riikola has to play forward on the fourth-line.
This team is currently on a three-game losing streak. They started the season 6-2 and are now 6-5.
Pittsburgh’s next game will be on the road on Saturday night against the Dallas Stars. Tampa Bay’s next game will be at home on Saturday night against the Nashville Predators.
