After Jacob deGrom had another stellar performance, the New York Mets bullpen tried very hard to blow this game away in the ninth-inning after leading 6-0, but they held on to win the game against the Miami Marlins 6-4.
Edwin Diaz pitched to one batter in the ninth. It was the tying runner up to the player and he was able to Curtis Granderson to fly out to left field.
Amed Rosario hit an RBI Triple for the Mets in the second-inning.
Jacob deGrom hit a solo home run in the third-inning off of Trevor Richards. Pete Alonso almost hit a two-run homer later in the inning, but it bounced off the top of the wall in left field and Brandon Nimmo scored to make it 3-0 New York.
Robinson Cano hit an RBI double in the seventh-inning for the New York Mets.
Dominic Smith hit an RBI single in the eighth-inning. Wilson Ramos had a pinch-hit single for New York as well in the eighth-inning.
Martin Prado had an RBI double, Lewis Brinson had a groundout RBI, Rosell Herrera had an RBI double, and Miguel Rojas had an RBI single all in the ninth-inning for the Miami Marlins.
Jacob deGrom picked up his second win of the season for the New York Mets. He pitched seven strong innings. Jacob deGrom only gave up three hits and he didn’t allow a run for the second consecutive game. Jacob deGrom walked one batter and he struck out a career high 14 batters.
Trevor Richards (0-1) was the losing pitcher for Miami. He pitched six innings and gave up five hits and three runs. Richards walked three batters and struck out seven.
New York sweeps a series for the first time this season. The next series for the New York Mets will be against the Washington Nationals for three games at home starting on Thursday afternoon at Citi Field. This will be the home opener for the Mets.
Miami will have an off day on Thursday. They will begin a three-game set on the road starting on Friday night against the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Park.
