The Utah Jazz don’t feel like staying pat this offseason and staying contempt in the near future. Utah made a bold move by trading for point guard Mike Conley from the Memphis Grizzles for Grayson Allen, Kyle Korver, Jae Crowder, the no. 23 pick in the NBA Draft, and a future first-round, according to Shams Charania of the Athletic and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
There have been rumors of Conley being traded ever since last trade deadline. He almost went to the Toronto Raptors along with Marc Gasol. Conley is only 31 years old. He has had issues of staying healthy over his career but when he is healthy, Mike Conley can be one of the best point guards in the NBA.
That is one of the reasons why Utah made this move. They have finished in fifth place in the west for the past two season. The Jazz have also been eliminated by the Houston Rockets in the playoffs the last two seasons.
With the shift in power potentially happening in the NBA, Utah feels like they could maybe contend for an NBA title. He averaged 21.1 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 6.4 APG, 0.3 BPG, and 1.3 SPG last season with Memphis.
His contract will expire after the 2020-2021. The cap hit next season will be over $32 million and the year after will be over $34 million. This was a very good move for the Utah Jazz.
Grayson Allen is 23 years old and he was a first-round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He averaged 5.6 PPG, 0.6 RPG, 0.7 APG, 0.2 BPG, and 0.2 SPG in his rookie season with Utah.
Kyle Korver is 38 years old and he is now back with the Atlanta Hawks once again. Korver averaged 8.6 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 1.2 APG, 0.2 BPG, and 0.4 SPG last season in 70 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Utah Jazz.
He has no plans to retire right now. Kyle Korver is expected to play another year or two and then possibly retire.
He is on the final year of his contract worth $7.5 million.
Crowder is 28 years old and he played with the Jazz for 80 games last season. He averaged 11.9 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 1.7 APG, 0.4 BPG, and 0.8 SPG last season. Jae Crowder was traded to Utah from the Cleveland Cavaliers at the trade deadline in 2018.
He is also entering the final year of his contract. Crowder will be owed $7,815,533, according to spotrac. He is also only 28 years old.
The Atlanta Hawks really meant it when they said that they wouldn’t mind acquiring salary dumps in trades.
This was a very good trade by both teams and both teams get what they want out of it.
