MLS Power Rankings: NYCFC Tops The Rankings and ATL On The Rise.

As a part of my initiative to bring more MLS content to this site I will be publishing a power rankings every 4 to 5 weeks. Here is the first actual power ranking of the year, enjoy.

2. Houston Dynamo
3. Atlanta United FC
4. Columbus Crew SC
NYCFC is one of two unbeaten teams that have not dropped points in the leauge table. Houston leads the league in shots on goal and goals (they are tied with several other clubs at 7) Atlanta United started with an awful week one loss. Then Josef Martinez showed up and after a hat trick performance Saturday leads the leauge in goals with 4. LAFC have been the surprise of the leauge winning there first games and shellacking RSL at Rio Tinto 5-1.
6. Sporting KC
7. Vancouver Whitecaps
8. FC Dallas
9. Philadelphia Union
10. Minnesota United
Sporting started slow but then got hot. Surprisingly the problem for KC has not been goal scoring but preventing goal scoring. They had to come back against Chicago and almost gave up a two-game lead against the Earthquakes this weekend. FC Dallas has found its stride over the past two weeks and look like the first half version of them we saw last year. Minnesota United seems too early to judge at this point but I couldn’t keep them out of the top 10 seeing as they have won two matches after making minimal offseason moves.
11. LA Galaxy
12. RSL
13. New York Red Bulls
14. Toronto FC
15. San Jose Earthquakes
LA look like the old Galaxy and that’s a good sign for Galaxy fans but bad for the rest of the leauge. RSL has been an anomaly, I’m not even sure what they are yet. What we do know is that even at 39 Nick Rimando is still arguably the best GK in the leauge. Toronto FC has CCL hangover once they finally lose that this team will start dominating again, don’t freak out.
16. Montreal Impact
17. Colorado Rapids
18. DC United
19. Chicago Fire
20. Orlando City SC
21. Portland Timbers
22. Sounders FC
