Nationals Sweep Mets

The Washington Nationals embarrassed the New York Mets 25-4 on Tuesday Night at Nationals Park in Washington D.C., and both teams had a game Wednesday Afternoon. The Mets had two runners on in the top of the ninth-inning with one out, but Brandon Nimmo grounded into a double-play and it gave the Nationals a 5-3 win. Washington swept the two-game set and the Nationals are 2-0 since Bryce Harper trade speculations.

Speaking of Harper he hit an RBI single in the first-inning and he went 2-for-4. Anthony Rendon hit a two-run homer for the Washington Nationals in the third-inning off of Noah Syndergaard.

Jose Reyes hit two solo home runs for the New York Mets. One was hit in the fifth-inning and one was hit in the eighth-inning.

Washington tacked on two more runs in the eighth on a Matt Adams fielder’s choice to first base and a pinch-hit sacrifice fly by Wilmer Difo.

Wilmer Flores hit a solo homer in the ninth-inning for New York off of Kelvin Herrera. Juan Soto almost caught it in left field, but the ball popped out of his glove and over the fence.

Tommy Milone (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the Washington Nationals. He pitched seven innings and gave up three hits and one run. Milone didn’t walk anyone and he struck out nine batters.

Noah Syndergaard (6-2) was the losing pitcher for the New York Mets. He made his first start of the disabled list since being diagnosed with Hand, foot, and mouth disease. Syndergaard pitched seven innings and gave up six hits and three runs. He walked one batter and struck out four.

Kelvin Herrera picked up his 16th save of the year for the Nationals. He pitched one inning and gave up two hits and one run. Herrera also walked one batter and struck out one.

The New York Mets will host the Atlanta Braves for a four-game set starting on Thursday Night. The Washington Nationals will host the Cincinnati Reds for a four-game set starting on Thursday Night.
