The Washington Nationals were looking to extended their winning streak to five games on Tuesday Night at Camden Yards in downtown Baltimore against the slumping Orioles. The Nationals hanged on in a 3-2 win against the Orioles.
Bryce Harper homered in the first-inning for the Washington Nationals off of Dylan Bundy. Manny Machado homered in the first-inning for the Baltimore Orioles off of Jeremy Helickson.
Wilmer Difo hit an RBI single in the second-inning for the Nationals. Mark Reynolds homered for Washington in the fourth-inning off of Dylan Bundy. Adam Jones hit an RBI double for the Orioles in the fifth inning. However after the first run scored in that inning for Baltimore, Jace Peterson tried to run home and he was thrown out at the plate.
Jeremy Helickson (2-0) was the winning pitcher for the Washington Nationals. He pitched five innings and gave up six hits and two runs. Helickson also struck out three batters.
Dylan Bundy (3-7) was the losing pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. He pitched six innings and gave up 11 hits and three runs. Bundy also struck out six batters.
Sean Doolittle picked up his 12th save of the season for Washington. He pitched an inning, gave up a hit, and struck out two batters. The finale of this three-game set will be on Wednesday Night in Baltimore. The starters will be Max Scherzer (8-1, 2.13 ERA) for the Nationals and David Hess (2-1, 4.15 ERA) for the Orioles.
