The Edmonton Oilers have been one of the best teams in the NHL to start the 2019-2020 season under new Head Coach Dave Tippett. The Philadelphia Flyers were looking to slow them down on the road, but Edmonton topped Philadelphia by a score of 6-3.
Leon Draisaitl scored 1:13 into the game for the Oilers.
Jakub Voracek tied the game at one on the power play for the Flyers 7:36 into the first-period.
Ethan Bear scored later in the first-period for Edmonton.
The Edmonton Oilers lit the lamp three times in the second-period with goals scored by Connor McDavid with 7:26 remaining in the second-period, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on the power-play with 5:28 remaining in the second-period, and Leon Draisaitl on the power play with 3:34 remaining in the second-period.
Edmonton was able to chase Philadelphia’s netminder Carter Hart from the game. Hart only made 10 saves in the game. Brian Elliott came in for him and he only made six saves.
Brandon Manning made it 6-1 Edmonton 3:40 into the third-period.
The Philadelphia Flyers scored two goals late in the game by Oskar Lindblom with 4:40 remaining in regulation and by Jakub Voracek on the power play with 2:18 remaining in regulation.
Mikko Koskinen made a career-high 49 saves for the Oilers.
Edmonton currently has the best record in the NHL right now at 6-1-0 with 12 points. Connor McDavid currently has 17 points so far this season. He scored one goal and recorded four assists in this game.
These two teams will play each other one more time this season in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday March 15, 2020 at the Wells Fargo Center at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
Philadelphia’s next game will be against the Dallas Stars on Saturday night. Edmonton’s next game will be against the Detroit Red Wings at home on Friday night.
