Patrick Hornqvist Hat Trick Lifts Penguins over Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche and the Pittsburgh Penguins were playing each other for the second time in several days. In the first match up Colorado scored the first three goals, then Pittsburgh scored the next three goals, and then Colorado scored the next three goals.

This time around, the Penguins scored the first three goals and the Avalanche scored the next three goals. After that, Patric Hornqvist a hat trick for the Pittsburgh Penguins in a span of 2:47 and it was the fastest hat trick scored in Penguins history. They won the game 6-3.

Jake Guentzel scored 2:46 into the game for Pittsburgh. Evgeni Malkin scored 4:06 later in the period for the Penguins. Derrick Brassard scored 35 seconds later.

Tyson Barrie scored a power-play goal for the Colorado Avalanche 8:16 into the second-period. Carl Soderberg scored for Colorado 1:16 later. Matt Nieto scored a short-handed goal for the Avalanche 3:45 later. The rest of the game was history.

These two teams split the series. Semyon Varlamov made 26 saves for the Colorado Avalanche. Casey DeSmith made 42 saves for the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Avalanche will be on the road for their next game on Thursday against the Florida Panthers. The Penguins will be at home for their next game on Thursday against the New York Islanders.
