Penguins Avoid Letdown Against Sabres

When the game was scoreless after one period between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres, there was a sense of concern for Pittsburgh because of the possibility of playing down to their opponents once again. They avoided that scene as took down Buffalo 5-0.

Phil Kessel scored a power-play goal 6:40 into the second-period for the Penguins. Brian Dumoulin scored with 4:53 remaining in the second-period. Patric Hornqvist scored a power-play goal with 2:52 remaining in the second-period for Pittsburgh.

The power play was clicking on all cylinders in this game and this has been the best it has looked over the last month. Pittsburgh went 3-for-4 on the power play.

Casey DeSmith got the start for the Penguins in net because Head Coach Mike Sullivan felt like Matt Murray needed some rest. DeSmith finished with 26 saves.

Carter Hutton finished with 23 saves for the Sabres.

The Buffalo Sabres won the season series against the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1. Pittsburgh’s next game will be on Saturday afternoon against the St. Louis Blues at home. Buffalo’s next game will be on Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes on the road.
