The Washington Capitals were without winger Tom Wilson because he got suspended for three games after a dirty hit made on Zach Aston-Reese in Game 3. It affected the Capitals energy level in a big way and the Pittsburgh Penguins won Game 4, 3-1. The series is tied at two.
Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Matt Murray took a puck to the collarbone early in the second-period on a shot by Dmitry Orlov. Murray stayed in the game and he made 20 saves. Will see how he reacts tomorrow to it.
Jake Guentzel scored in the second-period for the Penguins. T.J. Oshie tied the game on the power play later in the second for the Capitals on a nice pass from Nicklas Backstrom.
Later in the second period, the Pittsburgh Penguins had a power play and there was a mad scramble in front of the net and Evgeni Malkin took a shot and no one had no idea if the puck went in the net or not. They reviewed the play and Braden Holtby attempted to make a blocker save, but the blocker and puck were over the white line and it was ruled a good goal.
This happened to be the game-winner in the second-period with 2:29 remaining. The goal was credited to Evgeni Malkin.
Jake Guentzel scored an empty-net power-play goal with 58 seconds remaining in regulation. T.J. Oshie and Kris Letang got into a fight at the other end of the ice after the goal.
Braden Holtby played well again for the Capitals and he made 21 saves. Game 5 will be on Saturday Night in Washington D.C.
