The Pittsburgh Penguins found themselves trailing 6-3 in the third-period at home to the Vancouver Canucks after Adam Gaudette scored 3:06 in.
However, Pittsburgh would show no quit in themselves and they would tie the game at six on a Zach Aston-Reese goal with 9:30 remaining in regulation.
The Penguins won it with 3:06 remaining in regulation on a goal scored by Kris Letang and they won the game over the Canucks by a score of 8-6.
That goal was challenged for offsides and it was upheld.
Evgeni Malkin scored an empty-net goal with 0.2 seconds remaining in regulation for Pittsburgh.
The other two goals in that period after it was 6-3 was by Dominik Kahun 6:16 in and Evgeni Malkin 7:24 in.
The third-period started with a 4-2 deficit for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Jake Guentzel scored 1:01 into the third-period.
J.T. Miller made it 5-3 Vancouver 2:31 into the third-period.
What was also a strange sequence in this game was that Pittsburgh jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first-period. Jake Guentzel scored 2:29 into the game. Bryan Rust scored a power-play goal with 7:07 remaining in the first-period.
J.T. Miller scored with 3:28 remaining in the first-period for the Vancouver Canucks.
Vancouver scored three goals in the second-period by Elias Pettersson (7:17 into the second-period), Jake Virtanen (1:40 remaining in the second-period), and Adam Gaudette ( 59 seconds remaining in the second-period).
Matt Murray made 10 saves in this game for the Penguins. He was yanked in the second-period in favor of Tristan Jarry.
Jarry did a good job in relief and he finished the game with six saves. Tristan Jarry should have started this game in the first place.
Head Coach Mike Sullivan needs to realize that Matt Murray is struggling right now. I would not be surprised to see Murray on IR on Thursday for some reason with an injury and see goaltender Casey DeSmith called up from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL).
Thatcher Demko made 32 saves in this game for the Canucks.
These two teams will play each other one more time this season.
