The Pittsburgh Penguins were embarrassed on Monday night at home against the New Jersey Devils 6-3. On Wednesday night in prime time, Pittsburgh took down the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 at home. Tampa Bay is the best the team in the league and the Penguins have done very well this season against first place teams.
Riley Sheahan scored 3:25 into the game for Pittsburgh off a rebound. Phil Kessel scored 8:05 into the first-period for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sidney Crosby scored 16 seconds later.
Cedric Paquette had a dirty hit on Kris Letang in the first-period and it led to a scrum. At one point, Pittsburgh could have buried the Lightning when they had a 5-on-3 power play, but Tampa Bay killed it off.
Kris Letang scored the only goal of the second-period for Pittsburgh.
Evgeni Malkin and Steven Stamkos dropped the gloves in the third-period.
J.T. Miller scored with 4:10 remaining in regulation for Tampa Bay. Steven Stamkos scored a power-play goal for the Tampa Bay Lightning with 2:04 remaining in regulation.
Andrei Vasilevskiy made 18 saves for Tampa Bay. Matt Murray made 33 saves for Pittsburgh.
These two teams will play each other one more time next Saturday night, February 9 in Tampa Bay.
The Tampa Bay Lightning’s next game will be on the road on Friday night against the New York Islanders. The Pittsburgh Penguins next game will be at home on Friday night against the Ottawa Senators.
