Philadelphia Phillies Acquire Jean Segura

The Philadelphia Phillies made major improvements last season, but shortstop was one of their weak links on the team. They decided to acquire shortstop Jean Segura, right-handed pitcher Juan Nicasio, and left-handed pitcher James Pazos from the Seattle Mariners for shortstop J.P. Crawford and first baseman Carlos Santana.

Segura has been a consistent player for the past few years and he is 27 years old. His batting average last season was .304 with 10 home runs and 63 RBI’s, along with 20 stolen bases. Jean Segura’s on-base percentage was .341. He is also a very good fielder.

Nicasio’s record last season was 1-6 with a 6.00 ERA. He pitched in 42 innings and gave up 53 hits. Juan Nicasio pitched 42 innings and gave up 53 hits. He walked five batters and struck out 53. Nicasio had one save and he also blew six saves.

Pazos’s record last season was 4-1 with a 2.88 ERA. In 50 innings pitched, he has given up 47 hits and 19 runs. James Pazos walked 15 batters and struck out 45 last season with the Seattle Mariners. He also blew two saves last year.

As for the players Seattle received, shortstop J.P. Crawford was at one point in time a top prospect in the Philadelphia Phillies farm system. He is only 23 years old and maybe a change of scenery will do wonders for Crawford. His batting average last season was .214 with three home runs and 12 RBI’s, along with two stolen bases. Crawford’s on-base percentage was .319.

Carlos Santana’s batting average last season was .229 with 24 home runs and 86 RBI’s, along with two stolen bases. His on-base percentage was .352. Santana is 32 years old.

After this trade, the Philadelphia Phillies will still try and go after outfielder Bryce Harper or third baseman/shortstop Manny Machado. What they should really do is trade for Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout.
