Pirates Fast Start Lifts them over Nationals

The Washington Nationals and the Pittsburgh Pirates were both slumping heading into a Monday Night match up at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. The Pirates scored six runs in the first two innings and it was enough for them to secure a 6-3 win over the Nationals.

Gregory Polanco hit a two RBI single in the first-inning for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Colin Moran hit an RBI single for the Pirates later in the first inning.

Adam Eaton hit an RBI single in the second-inning for the Washington Nationals. Gregory Polanco hit a three-run homer off of Jefry Rodriguez in the second-inning for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Juan Soto hit a solo homerun off of Ivan Nova in the fifth-inning for the Nationals. Bryce Harper hit a solo homerun off of Ivan Nova in the sixth-inning for the Washington Nationals. Later in the sixth-inning, Adam Eaton and Francisco Cervelli got into an argument and the benches cleared, but no punches were thrown.

The Washington Nationals had a chance to tie the game in the ninth-inning, but Mark Reynolds ended the game on a double play.

The winning pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates was Ivan Nova (5-6). He pitched 5.2 innings and gave up eight hits and three runs. Nova struck out five batters.

The losing pitcher for the Washington Nationals was Jefry Rodriguez (0-1). He pitched five innings and gave up eight hits and six runs. Rodriguez walked four batters and struck out four.

Felipe Vazquez picked up his 19th save of the season for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He pitched one inning and gave up two hits. Vazquez also struck out a batter.

The Washington Nationals and the Pittsburgh Pirates will continue their three-game set on Tuesday Night at PNC Park.
