After losing their last four games, the Pittsburgh Penguins were going to make a move sooner rather than later. They decided to call up forwards Zach Aston-Reese and Garrett Wilson from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins from the American Hockey League. Derek Grant was sent to the AHL.
Players like Bryan Rust, Carl Hagelin, Daniel Sprong, Riley Sheahan, and Matt Cullen have not done anything this season to impress as role players.
Aston-Reese has scored six goals and recorded three assists in 11 games. Wilson has scored six goals and recorded five assists in 11 games. He is the captain of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
I expect Zach Aston-Reese to be in the lineup tomorrow night against the Washington Capitals on the road. Garrett Wilson could be in the lineup, but it will be up to Mike Sullivan what he wants.
If I had to choose a player to be scratched tomorrow, it would be Daniel Sprong. I would scratch Carl Hagelin if Derrick Brassard was healthy but that’s not the case.
The lines would be in that case: Line 1: Guentzel-Crosby-Hornqvist
Line 2: Simon-Malkin_Kessel
Line 3: Rust-Sheahan-Aston-Reese
Line 4: Wilson-Cullen-Hagelin
Hopefully the call ups of Aston-Reese and Wilson wakes up this team.
