PSF game of the week Carolina VS Philadelphia

Chris Chastain

For the first time this year the Thursday night game looks like the best game of the week. We have a Carolina Panthers team that is coming off a huge win in Detroit. Cam Newton has looked like a MVP candidate over the past 2 weeks. But, this Philadelphia defense is a nothing compared to what the Newton faced in New England. Cam Newton is not going to have a great game up against that Eagles defensive front. Carson Wentz will have a big day against the Carolina Panthers secondary that is not very good. LeGarrette Blount will not be able to carry the Eagles this week. This is a another big test for the Eagles and Carson Wentz. I am picking the Philadelphia Eagles to defeat the Carolina Panthers in a very good game. I believe the Eagles have the complete defensive package that will be too much for Carolina
Philadelphia Eagles 27-23

This is a game where these two teams are really trying to show what they are made of. I still have some concern on the Panthers and if they are for real. Cam Newton clearly looks to be back in his 2015 MVP form as he is making all the types of plays he needs to in order to elevate that offense. However, Carson Wentz has taken a very large step forward this year as an NFL quarterback and I have been very impressed. Wentz will step up in this game against the Panthers and a defense that ran all over the Lions offensive line last week, but the Eagles’ offensive line is one of the best in football, even though it is very underrated. I don’t know how the Panthers secondary can deal with all the weapons the Eagles have in Nelson Agholor, Alshon Jeffery, and Zach Ertz. I think the Eagles win this game by 4 points, even with how great the Panthers have looked recently.

This game features two teams who have gotten off to a bit of a surprisingly hot start. The Eagles and Panthers both boast a 4-1 record heading into week 6, and sit atop of their divisions. Not necessarily what I would have expected coming into this season, but it’s no fluke. The hype around the Eagles is real, and Cam Newton may be back to MVP form this season. The Panthers are a 3.5 point favorite in this game after beating Detroit last week, but I’m taking the underdog in this one. The Eagles who’s lone loss is to the undefeated Chiefs, have been very impressive to start this season. I expect Carson Wentz to have his way against the Panthers defense, and the Eagles D to come up with just enough stops to head back to Philly with a W. The Eagles win this one in a thrilling one 28-24.

Cam Newton has been playing out of his mind.  Although I think the Eagles are good, I don’t think they are good enough to beat a panthers defense playing out of there minds. Wentz hasn’t played in a big prime time game before and while he will keep it close the Panthers pass game will keep blowing things up, Expect Ed Dickson to have another big game. Panthers win 31-27.

The Eagles have been the best all-around team in the NFC, and Carson Wentz looks like a serious contender for MVP after 5 weeks. The connection with Wentz and Alshon Jeffrey is clearly there. This offense is primed to be effective. Defensively, the pass rush featuring players such as Fletcher Cox and Chris Long is among the league’s best. The Eagles have been hot this season, and they will continue it on Thursday. Carolina has looked decent this season. They’ve looked good at some points, and completely clueless at others. I’m not convinced yet with Carolina. Philly 33 Carolina 27
