Ramos Grand Slam Lifts Mets Over Nationals

In the top of the first-inning, Robinson Cano hit a ground ball to Wilmer Difo and it appeared as if the Washington Nationals were going to get out of the first-inning with a double play. Instead, the Mets challenged the play at first base and Cano was safe because Gerardo Parra dropped the ball at first base.

The inning kept moving and Wilson Ramos would hit a grand slam with two outs off of Jeremy Helickson. Because of it, New York never looked back and defeated Washington 6-2.

In the sixth-inning, Brandon Nimmo hit an RBI double for the Mets and they went up 5-0.

Victor Robles hit a 2-run homer for the Nationals in the sixth-inning off of Noah Syndergaard.

In the ninth-inning, Dominic Smith hit a solo home run for New York off of Joe Ross.

Noah Syndergaard (3-3) was the winning pitcher for the New York Mets. He pitched eight innings and only gave up four hits and two runs. Syndergaard only walked one batter and struck out six.

Jeremy Helickson (2-2) was the losing pitcher for Washington. He pitched five innings and gave up six hits and five runs. Helickson walked four batters and struck out three.

This three-game set between the New York Mets and the Washington Nationals will continue tomorrow night in Washington D.C. at Nationals Park.

The projected pitching match up is Wilmer Font (1-0, 5.50 ERA) for New York and Patrick Corbin (3-1, 3.20 ERA) for Washington.
