Role Players Step Up in Penguins win over Jets

The Pittsburgh Penguins haven’t had much help from their role players so far in the 2018-2019 season. With a big game on the road against the Winnipeg Jets, they needed other players to contribute. Pittsburgh got two goals from the fourth line and Zach Aston-Reese netted the game-winning goal for the Penguins off a turnover with 5:12 remaining in regulation to lift them to a 4-3 win over the Jets.

Brandon Tanev scored a short-handed goal for Winnipeg 7:01 into the game. Sidney Crosby scored a back-handed goal with 1:47 remaining in the first-period for Pittsburgh. Jake Guentzel record an assist on that goal and it was the 100th career point for him.

Mark Scheifele scored a goal for the Winnipeg Jets 39 seconds into the second-period. Riley Sheahan scored a goal for the Pittsburgh Penguins 4:40 into the second-period. Scheifele scored a goal for the Jets with four minutes remaining in the second-period.

Derek Grant tied the game at three for the Penguins 5:08 into the third-period. Casey DeSmith made 24 saves for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves for the Winnipeg Jets.

These two teams will play each other one more time this season. Pittsburgh will be on the road against the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night. Winnipeg will host the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night.
