Andrew McCutchen, nicknamed “Cutch” has been the major part of Pittsburgh’s process to being a good, contending team. From 2012- 2015 McCutchen was a 4 time allstar, and MVP winner in 2013. He put Pittsburgh on his back and helped them make it to the postseason.
His play has dipped down in 2016 and 2017 though. He is not playing like the player he once was. He has posted career low numbers in 2016, and even worse in 2016.
In 2016 his batting average was just .256. In 2017, his numbers got even worse as his batting average has slippped down to .232. No body is exactly sure why his numbers a dropping massively. He once carried the city of Pittsburgh, and is not doing it now. There is speculation he could be traded out of Pittsburgh.
At the age of 30, there is younger, and better athletes on the team and in the organization waiting to come up. If the Pirates decide to trade him, they can maybe get two or three players, and a possible draft pick, as he is still a good player who is having trouble executing and producing.
He might just need a change of scenery and a fresh start. It makes sense for Pittsburgh to send him away, and try to get their organization back into contending again.
