The New York Jets traded quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and a 2019 sixth-round pick to the New Orleans Saints for a 2019 third-round draft pick. Bridgewater has played well for the Jets this preseason, but he is 25 years old and coming off a gruesome knee injury.
Because of the trade, New York announced they will have 21-year-old Sam Darnold as the Week 1 starter against the Detroit Lions on the road for a Monday night contest on September 10.
With Bridgewater now with the Saints, he could serve as Drew Brees’s backup. Maybe this is a potential plan for Bridgewater to take over as the starter once Brees retires, but the New Orleans Saints do like Taysom Hill to be the future quarterback.
Hill was supposed to be the backup, but the Saints may have not used him on special teams. Because of the trade, Hill will be back to being the third quarterback and he will continue to play on special teams.
Teddy Bridgewater has played well this preseason. He has completed 73.7 percent of his passes for 316 yards two touchdowns and one interception. Bridgewater has also rushed for seven yards on two carries.
