The Atlanta Falcons Aren’t as Good as People Say They Are

A lot of people have the Atlanta Falcons either winning the NFC South this season and possibly making a deep playoff run. People should maybe reconsider that decision for a couple of reasons.

The first reason is because they are not even the best team in their own division, let alone a top five team in the NFC. The New Orleans Saints won the division last season and they probably will again this season. The Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, and the Minnesota Vikings are better than the Atlanta Falcons.

The second reason is the Carolina Panthers are also better than them. They didn’t make too many changes to the roster, but the Panthers force turnovers and win the line of scrimmage.

The third reason is the Atlanta Falcons will take a step back this season and they will not be a top 10 defense or offense. Even though Atlanta won a playoff game last season and almost beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round, but the Falcons window is closing. They blew a 28-3 lead to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI and that was probably their best chance to win a Super Bowl.

Matt Ryan is 33 years old, but he may not be in the NFL much longer. It is quite possible the Atlanta Falcons start the season 0-3 because they play the Philadelphia Eagles (road), Carolina Panthers (home), and New Orleans Saints (home) to start the season.

Atlanta also has to go on the road to face the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Falcons also host an improved New York Giants team and the Dallas Cowboys during the season. The Baltimore Ravens could also be a pesky team for Atlanta to handle.

The Cowboys are NOT anywhere close to being better than the Falcons. The Falcons beat the Rams fairly decisively in the Playoffs. Save for losing Dontari Poe, they didn’t lose much and the defense is a top 10 defense, only getting better while the offense was still a top 10 offense. Eagles and Saints are the closest in that area but you will be proven wrong this year.
