  • October 10, 2015 QB Jake Fromm commits to Alabama.
  • November 29, 2015 Georgia fires long time head coach Mark Richt.
  • December 1, 2015 Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is hired as Georgia’s new head coach.
  • March 3, 2016 QB Jake Fromm flips his commitment from Alabama to follow the person who recruited there, Kirby Smart.
  • May 2, 2016 head coach Nick Saban recruits Tua Tagovailoa to come to Alabama and fill the recently vacated incoming QB position.
  • January 8th, 2018 Down 13 – 0 at halftime of the National Championship game, Nick Saban benches his struggling QB Jalen Hurts in favor of freshman Tua Tagovailoa. Tua would go on to lead the Tide to an overtime victory against Jake Fromm and the Georgia Bulldogs.

It’s amazing to think that Georgia, unknowingly and possibly indirectly, may have cost themselves national title in 2018 just by firing Mark Richt in 2015. Also keep in mind that this chain reaction is ongoing. Prior to the National Championship Tua Tagovailoa had been considering transferring due to lack of playing time. After his performance in the championship game it’s entirely possible that Jalen Hurts is the one that transfers. Or what if Hurts decides to stay and move to RB or WR. The consequences of a head coach getting fired at an entirely different school have yet to come to fruition at Alabama. It will be interesting to see how deep this runs. Who knew Mark Richt getting fired would lead to all this.
