The Golden State Warriors Are Remodeling

With Kevin Durant leaving for the Brooklyn Nets in free agency, the Golden State Warriors were able to re-sign shooting guard Klay Thompson to a five-year deal worth $190 million.

He will sit out most or all of next season because of a Torn ACL he suffered in Game 6 of the NBA Finals in the third-quarter against the Toronto Raptors at home.

Last season, Thompson averaged 21.5 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 2.4 APG, 0.6 BPG, and 1.1 SPG in 78 games.

The next interesting move Golden State made was acquire point guard D’Angelo Russell in a sign-and-trade with the Brooklyn Nets. Russell signed a four-year deal worth $117 million.

He made the All-Star Game last season with Brooklyn and D’Angelo Russell was one of the reasons why the Nets went to the playoffs for the first time since 2012-2013 last season.

He is a very good shooter and it will be interesting to see how Russell will co-exist with Steph Curry.

Whenever Klay Thompson gets healthy, those three players on the floor together could be scary.

D’Angelo Russell averaged 21.1 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 7 APG, 0.2 BPG, and 1 SPG, in 81 games with the Brooklyn Nets last season. He is only 23 years old.

Because of the Russell sign-and-trade, the Golden State Warriors had to trade Andre Iguodala to the Memphis Grizzles for cap room. Iguodala won the NBA Finals MVP back in 2015. Golden State also sent some future draft picks in the deal to Memphis as well.

He is 35 years old and is one of the best defenders in the NBA. Andre Iguodala averaged 5.7 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 3.2 APG, 0.8 BPG, and 0.9 SPG, in 68 games last season with the Golden State Warriors.

He only has one year remaining on his contract and it is over $17 million. It is also possible that Memphis buys him out and Iguodala signs somewhere else.

This was a very good job by the Golden State Warriors. They will need to make some more adjustments to the roster so they can still compete in a tough Western Conference.

Golden State may not be the favorites out west to start next season despite winning five straight conference titles and three NBA titles in five seasons, but it will also be interesting to see where they go from here.
