The playoffs have been in full force for the past few weeks and it has been an exciting start to this postseason. The Pelicans will face the Warriors with game 1 starting tonight and the Jazz advanced to the second round last night and will face the Rockets starting tomorrow night. Both series should be entertaining with lots of star power in every game. Who will make it to the Western Conference Finals? Here is my prediction.
(1) Houston Rockets vs. (5) Utah Jazz
The Jazz shocked many people when they closed their series against OKC out in 6 games. Donovan Mitchell proved he was the real deal and shined in his playoff series debut. Ingles, Rubio, and Gobert were huge pieces to help the Jazz take down the Thunder. Their team defense was great in helping stop the stars and superstars they were playing against which shows they aren’t afraid of a challenge. The Rockets on the other hand, closed their series out in 5 games showing the same dominant team we knew they were all season. I expect this series to be a good one since the Jazz are such a good defensive team with Rudy Gobert anchoring their defense and James Harden leading the charge for the Rockets on offense. Ultimately, the Rockets will be too much for the Jazz but I do see them winning a few games because Utah is a very tough place to play.
Prediction: Rockets in 6
(2) Golden State Warriors vs (6) New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans shocked the world when they took down the Blazers in a series sweep. Jrue Holiday put the clamps on Damian Lillard and exposed him in the Pelicans suffocating defense. Holiday also showed he could score providing offense which was much needed to help Anthony Davis carry the weight. “Beardless Mirotic” was great helping stretch the floor and Anthony Davis possibly put himself in the conversation for being a top 5 player in the world. As for the Warriors, Steph Curry is set to sit out game 1 but is likely to return for game 2. This changes the series a lot as the Warriors will regain their most important player and be back at full strength. I love what I’ve seen from the Pelicans but I can’t discredit the greatness of the Warriors. I have Warriors winning this one.
