Carolina Hurricanes winger Jeff Skinner is about to enter the final year of his contract. He will be an unrestricted free agent after next season. The Carolina Hurricanes are looking to move him. Skinner is 26 years old and he is owed a base salary of $6 million next season, but the cap hit would be $5.725 million.
Jeff Skinner scored 24 goals and recorded 25 assists in 82 games. His plus/minus was -27. What teams could Skinner be traded too?
The first team that comes to mind is the Toronto Maple Leafs. He would be a perfect fit on the second or third line as a winger. It’s very possible that the Maple Leafs don’t re-sign James van Riemsdyk and Skinner would be a good replacement.
The second team that comes to mind is the New Jersey Devils. The Devils need second and third line scoring. They didn’t have enough offense in their playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The third team that comes to mind is the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Hurricanes and the Penguins are very familiar with making trades with one another. It’s possible that the Penguins could trade Conor Sheary who is owed $3.5 million for the next two seasons and trade Carl Hagelin who has an expiring contract and is owed $4 million in 2018-2019. Skinner can do more than Sheary.
The fourth team that comes to mind is the Edmonton Oilers. They don’t have much cap room, but Skinner would provide depth scoring for Edmonton which they lacked in 2017-2018.
The fifth team that comes to mind is the San Jose Sharks. They already have a solid roster and the Sharks were one of the best depth scoring teams in 2017-2018. Skinner would provide another spark to that offense.
The sixth team that comes to mind is the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings made it back to the postseason last season and they feel like they are a goal scorer or two away from making another deep playoff run.
The seventh teams that comes to mind is the Florida Panthers. The Panthers made a run last year and they almost made it to the postseason. Florida feels like they could be a playoff team if they get another goal scorer and get off to a better start in 2018-2019.
