A.J. McCarron was traded from the Cincinnati Bengals to the Buffalo Bills during the offseason. He was in line to be the Buffalo Bills Week 1 starter on the road against the Baltimore Ravens, but McCarron will miss time with a hairline fracture to his right collarbone and he suffered the injury in Friday Night’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on the road.
McCarron completed three passes on six attempts for 12 yards in the game. He also rushed for six yards on one carry. In the first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, A.J. McCarron completed seven passes in 10 attempts for 116 yards. He also rushed for -1 yards on two carries.
Since McCarron is going to miss time, who will be the Buffalo Bills starting quarterback be now?
Nathan Peterman has played well in both preseason games and he has been accurate. Peterman has completed 17-of-20 passes in two games for 231 yards two touchdowns and one interception. He has rushed for two yards on five carries.
Josh Allen was drafted seventh overall by the Buffalo Bills and they traded up to draft him. So far in the preseason, he has 18-of-32 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns. Allen has also rushed for 47 yards on six carries.
The Buffalo Bills will have two more preseason games. Right now, Nathan Peterman should be the starter. He had a really bad first game last season against the Los Angeles Chargers on the road by throwing five interceptions in the first half. His mechanics are much better now.
Josh Allen should sit on the bench and learn and not be thrown into the fire right away. Once he sees the field, there is no way Allen should be pulled.
