img_1818Last year the Boston Celtics finished with the 1st seed in the eastern conference with a 53-29 record, led by all star point guard Isaiah Thomas. The Celtics went all the way to the eastern conference finals defeating the bulls 4-2 in the first round, and defeating the wizards 4 games to 3 in the ECSF. The Celtics got pounded by the Cavs in the ECF 4-1, including losing to the cavs by 41 points in game 2. After that really depressing loss to the Cavs in the Eastern Conference finals they made some really good moves this offseason.

Celtics Offseason moves:

The Celtics drafted Jayson Tatum with the 3rd pick in the draft. Tatum was a star at Duke and played incredable in the summer league this offseason, averaging 17.7 PPg and 8.0 RPG in Las Vegas, and 18.7 PPg, 9.7 RPG, and 52.4 FG% in Utah. Gordan Hayward also signed with the Celtics in free agency this year. He was an all star in the west last year, leading his team to the 5th seed and the going to the 2nd round. Hayward just came off of a season averaging 21.9 PPg, 5.4 RPG, about 40% from three, and a 53.6 eFG%. Hayward is 27 years old and has improved every year of is career, and is now back with his college coach, Brad Stevens. The celtics traded away Avery Bradley for Marcus Morris so they could sign Gordon Hayward and the Celtics clearly won that figuring Hayward and Morris combined is better than Avery Bradley. The Celtics also gotaynes, and Zizic to help with their bad rebounding issues they dealt with last year. The moves the Celtics made this offseason are one of the reasons they can make it back to the finals this upcoming year.

Boston’s young talent:

The Boston celtics have some really good young talent that keeps getting better each year. The celtics have some really solid young guys on their bench such as jayson tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier, Guerschon Yabusele, and Ante Zizic. Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown played a hug part in the Celtics success last season. Brown was a top 5 rookie last year making an impact off the bench last season averaging 6.6 PPG, 2.8 RPG, and was a really good defender while being super athletic. Marcus Smart put up career high number last season putting up 10.6 PPG, 4.6 APG, 3.9 RPG, 1.6 SPG and made huge plays down the stretch of the games for the celtics with his tremendous defense. Smart is only 23 years old, and Brown is only 20 years old and have potential to play a big role in the Celtics success this upcoming season. The celtics are the 5th youngest team in the NBA with an average age of 24.5 years old.

Cavs offseason:

The biggest threat to the celtics in the Eastern Conference are the Cavs and they didn’t have an impressive offseason at all. The Cavs got Jeff Green and DRose, but that’s about it. Kyrie just requested to get traded from the Cavs so he can have the “leading role” on a team, and Lebron seems very upset about that decision. Kyrie’s been mocking Lebron in some videos posted on socials media such as the workout troll with Curry and the “im coming home” snapchat video. There was also a report this week that Lebron is “100 leaving Cleveland after this season because his relationship with owner is beyond repair”. That report came from the same person who said Lebron was going back to Cleveland and Lebron didn’t denie that report yet like he did to the others. Clearly, the Cavs offseason has been an absolute mess and may cause problems in the regular season with Kyrie maybe getting traded.

The Celtics seem to be the favorite to get the 1 seed for the 2nd year in a row with them improving from last season and having a really good coah, while the Cavs might be trading away their all star point guard. If the Cavs lose Kyrie, and the Celtics having a really good offseason with all of their good young talent might be able to propel them over the Cavs in the playoffs this upcoming year. The Celtics have the much better coach, a much better defense, and if the Cavs lose Kyrie they might have an = offense or the Celtics might be better there too. Marc Gasol is also open for trades and the Celtics are the most likely team to get him if any team does get him. The Wizards and Raptors didn’t really make any offseason moves either and the Celtics seem to be a better overall basketball squad than those teams now by a lot more than last season. In conclusion, the Celtics have a really good shot to get the 1 seed and make it to the finals for the first time since 2010!
